Democratic value or Super Power.
Dr. Ramachandra Guha has made an interesting reading of about history. He said
most of the countries that got freedom from Dutch, English, Portuguese, French
etc. Most of these countries did not continued as democratic after first
election.
In these contra India not only went beyond 2nd General Election in 1957 but
continued till today as Democratic.
But he also considers that chances of India remaining Democratic is 50:50.
India is still learning democracy.
Three threats for democracy in India are
1. Right wing lobby,
2. Naxalite and Left Parties and
3. Few people believe that let India split in different states.
India is unnatural nation with many diversities.
He stress that India should remain as it, peace loving growing at its own pace.
India’s ambition to become a super power may dampen the spirit of democracy.
