>From time immemorial the history of the Indian sub-continent meant only one basic syndrome i.e. people from Central Asia came through the Khyber Pass and invaded India for rape, rapine and plunder. And the most interesting part is that most of the invaders ultimately settled down in the Indian sub=continent. Invaders came from as far as Mongolia, Xinjiang ( Chinese Turkestan ), Kazhakstan, Uzbekistan and finally from a region around the Hindu Kush Mountains called Afghanistan.
And for millennia India could do nothing about it except bear the burden. This has nothing to do with Islam although most of these people now belong to this religion. Indian ;polity was weak not ony because our ancestors believed in non-violence but more so because there was no such thing as unity of pur;pose among the Hindus who were divided into various water tight compartments called castes. The area around Hindu Kush Mts. is mainly inhabited by the Pathan tribes who became warriors par excellence because they had to fight other invaders who had to pass through their territory on their way to India. Pathans too invaded India many a time. Even the mighty British of the nineteen century tried to subjugate Pathans but met with failure. and so did the Soviets in the 20th century. The mighty Soviet army was humbled by Pathan fighting spirit ably supported by the American technology and well oiled by the Saudi finance. And where the British and Russians have failed can the Americans succeed. Technology alone cannot win wars, one needs dedicated personnel which Americans seem to lack. Thus the heavy reliance on the Pakistani army to do the job. But fellow co-religionist Pakistanis do not appear to be sufficiently motivated by latest war gadgetry combined with ample financial aid which by now, are subject to the law of diminishing returns.
