Before the "bhailo", there were many "bhitorlos" who were campaigning for the same cause -- civil liberties, an end to Portuguese colonialism in Goa (replaced by whatever, an autonomous State, union with India, a banana republic, or a plutocracy of the traditional elites).

Anyway, why should we label people 'bhailo' only when they undertake actions which *we* dislike? For every priviledged (or supposedly priviledged) citizen of the colonial Estado, there were five or ten who felt disempowered and discriminated against.

I'm not sure what act of JoeGoaUK (whom you call Joe.co.uk in your typical style) you're referring to. But attitudes towards 1961 often end up in terms of class conflict. FN

It is strange that we laud and saude a bhailo for changing our destiny in the

correct the events of 18th June and thereafter?

Best wishes

On 18th June 1946 at 4.30pm thousands of Goans gathered here..
