The place is well maintained and there are about 100 inmates there. By chance I stopped by at a bed where a frail old man was lying down with his rosary in his hand. He was happy that somebody stopped to talk to him and he was happier to know that it was some one from Goa. His name is Francis (Remedious) Dias from Divar, who is now 81 years old (born 1928). He left Goa in 1980, and with his wife Angela ran a beauty saloon at Kemps Corner at Bombay. His wife died in 1995. They have a son Savio Dias who studied at St. Mary’s (Bombay) and later at Mount Abu. Savio went away to the USA on work in 1997 and over the years Francis lost touch with him. Being alone, Francis decided to stay at Mother Teresa’s home (initially at Bombay I think) but was later transferred to the home at Pune (Chinchwad). Francis says that it will be difficult for Savio to trace where he currently is and at the same time Francis is most eager to get news of Savio. He does not need any help and support as he is happy and resigned to his life at the home where his needs are taken care of by the good nuns. But he would be very happy to get news of his son Savio. Rico, I thought maybe if you can put this on the Goa Net, or some website of US Goans, there could be a chance of somebody knowing Savio Dias and passing on the info to him or coming back to us with news. Thanks a lot Rico. Best regards, Lloyd Vaz Email: [email protected].
