My dear Jane, I do read good articles that I come across on any forum or magazine, written be males as well as females and FYI Shobhaa De and Bachi Karkaria are my favourites columnists and writers, so please don't take me for a sexist or a person with a male superiority complex. I am a genuine equality person. I am sure the politician you referred to was a Congress Politician, from your write's I assume your intelligence to be much higher than most of our politicians, so you shouldn't be naïve enough to believe what a two bit politician tells you. I let you on how tickets are distributed, the guy who can come up with a considerable amount of finance for the party election fund is given a ticket. From where are "the goody two shoes, social activist" going to get that kind of money ? As for the Bio Datas of genuine social activists, they'll be in the bins. During the last elections we begged the Congress not to give ticket to the former MLA (very corrupt person) but instead to nominate a good social worker, but did they listen to us (the congress supporters) ? No, they gave the ticket to the same corrupt guy. So forget the cock and bull story of your politician friend. As for me standing for election "may be" I suffer from the same bug as you, not me, but I'll support any one who is truly genuine and secular. As for atrocities against women, I agree with you cent percent, it should start with one's own home, village and area and I am happy to tell you that nothing of that sort happens in our area any more and a few that had happened in the past in my presence, I have handled them with equal intensity, to have law and order the politicians should not intimidate the police and that's exactly what's happening in Goa. The police under pressure from the politicians, let go of the goons, Mangalore is a classic example, if you are a frequent visitor than you should be aware of that. BTW my reference was to India in general. How many more centuries will it take to erase this social stigma called ST,SC & BC ? Did you not mention that the present Congress Government is doing a fine job ? If you were not a frequent visitor then, I could understand that you may be unaware of the flaws of the present Government, which can be picked out from a distance, like vultures circling above a carcass going for the kill. I certainly don't mind if you have male pals as well. FYI please take the Airport - Verna - Cortalim route on your next visit and you will see plenty of slums just within a stone throw distance from the airport, and if you happen to be in Margao try visiting our CM illegitimately conceived "Monti Dongor" and the "Kare Bandh" area right up to the Railway station on either side of the tracks in the heart of Margao. To see what Luzhino has done take a trip from the Electricity department Aquem to Dovorlim to Nessai you'll see slums in abundance and the open air toilets and showers a plenty. As for the well lit, smooth roads, try driving in villages after 8 PM any where from Cansaulim to Quepem or Canacona. NH 17 not the only road in Goa. If you have been walking on the roads in Goa at 12 PM all by yourself, then I can only say you are one hell of courageous and lucky lady after murders and rapes being reported every second day in Goa. What have the poor souls affected by CRZ got to do with rich Goans selling land and looking for greener pastures ? On second thoughts if you think Goa is paradise under the present regime, why would there be need to leave Goa any way ? I don't support migration, but it the insecurities of our land and the rampant corruption and the loopholes in laws that have frustrated people and forced them to migrate, I know at least a few who where forced by circumstances to migrate, lets not bring them in to the equation. My question is, why hasn't this fantastic Government not done any thing for the GOANS who are affected by CRZ ? These poor souls have not migrated, nor have they sold to their land to outsiders, their only crime is, they have extended a room or two which is naturally not legal, but if this fantastic Government can in a hurry come up with a back dated ordinance to save a filthy rich mine owner who has been involved in illegal mining, why can't they help these fellow Goans ? This present regime has made the rich richer and the poor poorer, personally, this present regime sucks !
