Vinay wrote in Message 2: This party is supported by equally ?corrupt and selfish English? Media ?that is partly responsible for the disinformation and being the vehicle of propaganda for these corrupt rats. India will continue to be eaten by these rats of Congress and its CRONIES. Following ?article in NY Times is proof that how children in India are suffering malnutrition in? this corrupt regime. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/13/world/asia/13malnutrition.html?_r=1&ref=wo rld Freddy Agnelo Fernandes wrote in Message 4: Doom looks imperative, but there is still room for optimism. We Goans have to look beyond the flamboyant buccaneering and see who it will be, that will work for Goa and Goans, please do not get carried away by the promises of gifts during Christmas and Dipawali because they come just once a year, look for truly genuine people who will gift us with good governance 24 x 7 x 365. Will it be hazardous to speculate that we Goans have it in us to do it and in the process save our beloved Goa ? ______________ Both messages touched my heart. I feel the same frustration and anger that we are ruled by the worst elements in our midst. Danny Boyle had the reputation to make Slumdog Millionaire into a worldwide topic of discussion. He cannot solve the problems of slums in Bombay if Bombay's "leaders" remain complacent and indifferent to the fate of the poor. I used to be a bleeding heart activist for affordable living. My neighbours, even my friends, and especially Thatcher's "children" did not give a damn. They thought membership of the EU would protect them, wishful thinking is another delusion that afflicts the greedy. Readers' responses from around the world to the NY Times article of malnutrition was invaluable. In UK poverty is also ignored by posture politicians, who are no different to Indian ones. Senior citizens suffer malnutrition everywhere because their incomes are not protected like civil servants and politicians are. The standard of nursing I saw in Goa was amazing, nothing so appropriate to patient care is available in the postcode lottery of the NHS. Western capitalism is prevalent in India, it is called AFFLUENZA. It has become endemic and pernicious, just as it is in India. The poor like prostitution and indentured labour is always present across the world. Exploitation is too easy, Politicians are parasites in my experience. Pakistan under Benazir Bhutto's husband broke its pledge to reinstate the judges removed by the General. One note of caution is that I have found all political parties are great in opposition but revert to type once elected. USA-led liberation has not brought deliverance, nor are black South Africans better off under black rule. Rita Grootendorst London
