In the 1800s, there was a Goan General Manoel Antonio de Souza Goveia who
terrorised the Africans and Arabs alike.

"This Manoel Antonio is a Goanese and must be a man of great force of
character. Many years ago he came from India to seek his fortune in Africa,
where his talents were soon recognised and taken advantage of by the Portuguese
Gorvernment.About 1868 or 1869 he was sent in command of a large force of Zulus
to compel Mokambi, then the independent chief of the Barue country to pay taxes
to the Portuguese Government, the said chief hirtheto having resisted all
attempts to do so. Manoel Antonio with his Landeens however overcame his
resistance, thoroughly subdued his tribe and persuaded him to pay. After that
he seems to gained great power and influence amongst the people with whom he
was living and finally became their chief."

Happy Birthday Goveia, you come from a long line of fighting Generals :-)

Best,
