Throughout his two terms in the White House President George Bush was
unfailingly respectful and civil to his political adversaries, in spite of the
most vicious campaigns of personal slander and calumny by the Democrat
leadership and the highly organized far left wing that any recent US president
has had to endure. We even see this pop up on Goanet from time to time.

Through it all, he kept his focus on his three top priorities, a) keeping the
country safe after 9/11, which he did, b) keeping taxes low to revive the
economy from the recession he inherited, which he did, c) improving the public
educational system by setting standards, which he did, and d) changing the
regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan to eliminate what he saw as threats to the
national and global security and to give the citizens in those countries a
chance to experience freedom and democracy, which he did as well.

Most of us take our freedom and democracy for granted, the lack of which our
Goans in the Gulf are forced to temporarily cope with for economic reasons -
until they retire back in Goa to face challenges of a different kind.

President Bush's major failures lay in a) failure to use his veto power to curb
wasteful federal spending, b) failure to protect the borders from illegal
immigrants towards whom he showed a curious compassion, and c) failure to go
beyond warnings to force the Democrats to acknowledge the weakening banking
system from years of substandard lending due to government regulations by
taking his case directly to the American people.

Here we see President Bush continue to show his respect for the Office of
President by refusing to criticize his successor, who has been relentlessly
blaming the previous administration even for the financial crisis which was
created largely by his party, with his help.

While Sen. Chris Dodd was the largest recipient of political contributions in
the US Legislature from Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and AIG, who were all major
players in the build up to the current financial crisis, President Obama was
the second largest overall, and the largest recipient per year since being
elected to the Senate:

Memo to President Bush: You will need a ghost writer to edit your Malapropisms
