Cecil bab thanks for your reply.
I have also written to the lady but since I did not receive any reply..
I thought of replyn to you on what may have prompted her to assume they are
goan songs.

First and foremost...I agree with you that theres not a single konkani song
in the request and hence it shud not be termed as GOAN picnic songs.
I presume the konkani song lyrics are already available on my blog/net..n
hence she made a request for the other english songs.

Now as you talk of goan songs, let me tell you there are many konkani audio
cassettes/Cds titled as Goan Masala and sung by Goan Singers...the fact is
that these are not real goan songs.. its just a verse of dulpods and a mixture of hindi, english and Marathi songs....the goan bands themselves play the masala with mixture of konkani(less of konkani) more of hindi and marathi songs for weddings...a few years back it was Daler
Mehndi goan masala.

If you say the east indians...then too i doubt cause the east indians
normally have their own Marathi songs.(i have audio of nacha nacha east indian songs other then the ones mentioned on the east indian website)...but on the other hand our late melody king Alfred Rose used to sing English songs and his son Engelbert Rose has produced two audio cassettes Garam Masala and Ambott tik which features most of the english songs the lady requested and many goans
sing these songs for picnics in Mumbai and in Goa too...
I first heard the english songs...in the morning, she went into the water..lay your pistols down, darlin open the door etc in Goa n also the konkani versions of golleant sankli solleanchi.

I have lived in Bandra n hve been for many "'Khimad" parties with east indians,
it was always goan-east indian songs followed by the english songs...
east indians understood konkani as its similar to marathi. I also had a few anglo indian friends
but they were never much into these party songs like the east indians.

Some of the common english numbers were mostly heard on Saturday Date...
which mostly east indians n goans heard and later when the Mumbaikar goans went to goa
they carried on these songs in Goa.

To conclude I can say...even goans in goa sing the english songs in
continuation of konkani songs..n hence I could say the lady who requested the songs presumed that it was also goan picnic songs, having heard from a mumbaikar goan or asli goan:)

In Bombay one could get the booklets of english song words,.I have with me
here two booklets of Jim Reeves part 1 n 2 and Nat King Cole (300 songs) by Kants Books... also other books available by Kants are Boney M, Abba 1 n 2, Donna Summer, Carpenters, Beatles Bee Gess. pop hits I,2,3,4...all these books were available at Marques & Co. (Bombay) MG Market, next to Metro Cinema.Price Rs. 3.50 to Rs. 6/- per booklet. (Published from Jalandhar)
