The arrogance of the scientists and engineers of this country is what has
resulted in the Koshi deluge. It is the hypocrisy and double speak of the
intelligensia of this country that threatens the livelihoods of the adivasis
and marginalised sections. The contradictions of the intelligensia in Goa gets
well manifested in the Cidade issue. It is 'Talibanisation' when the rich are
at the receiving end, but when the poor are uprooted and their livelihoods
snatched to further the designs of the rich it is 'development' and 'progress'.
Right and wrong actions depends on who are at the receiving end. To work for
the benefit of the rich is 'progressive' but to lobby for the rights of the
poor is 'anarchy' or ' regressive'. The supposed plight of 600 workers and
their families who will supposedly lose their jobs if one section of the
building is brought down provokes the writing of such great treatises by hired
sympathisers of the mineral farmers. After all, how can these be expected to
bite the hand that feeds them?
NGOs and social action groups are being consistently accused of being
unaccountable and of misleading the people. Activists are advised to have a
heart. But where are the hearts and minds of these opportunistic section of
local and migrant intelligensia in Goa when the life and health of the 14 lakh
population of this State is under grave threat due to what is being done to the
ground water by those who plunder the earth for the minerals? Goans could well
do wihout these lopsided hired intelligencia.
