Much has been said about the United Goans Democratic Party candidate Matanhy
Saldanha's links with the BJP as at a crucial juncture of Goan politics, he
showed the courage to live with his principles and took a stand against the

Ram, gaya Ram politics and paid for his foolhardiness.
However, while everybody is talking about Matanhy's association with the
BJP,
shenanigans of other politicians in Goa who not only romanced but even
honey-mooned with the BJP is conveniently forgotten.
Just to refresh memories, let us recall our immediate past.
Chief Minister of Goa Digambar Kamat who now vows by the Indian National
Congress, joined the BJP when he realized that the Congress would not give
him
the ticket to contest from Margao. He not only became a MLA but was also a
minister in the BJP supported government and subsequently, the BJP
government.
The only reason why he left the BJP was because the Congress offered him the
Chief Ministership.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Subhash Shirodkar, was a
minister
in the Francisco Sardinha government that was formed with support from the
BJP.
The ex-MP from Mormugao Francisco Sardinha became the Chief Minister of Goa
with
the support of the BJP. The other two names recommended for the Congress
ticket
for the Lok Sabha elections from South Goa also had links with the BJP.
Power
Minister Aleixo Sequeira was the industries minister in the Francisco
Sardinha
government that was formed with BJP support.
Although Valanka Alemao had no links with the BJP, her father Churchill
Alemao
honeymooned with the BJP for more than a fortnight first at Hotel Nova Goa
at
Panaji and subsequently in Delhi when within a month of Digambar Kamat
taking
over as chief minister of Goa, there was a move to topple him, which was
initiated by Churchill Alemao and Babush Monserrate. The spokesman of
Congress
Ramakant Khalp who has suddenly become very voluble, was a minister twice in
governments that were formed with BJP support. Of the Ministers in the
present
government, Ravi Naik was a member of the BJP once upon a time while Filipe
Neri
Rodrigues was a part of the BJP government and was even supported by the BJP
at
the previous elections. Babu Azgaonkar was also a member of the BJP once
upon a
time and very candidly admitted that he was quitting the BJP to join the
Congress because of the ministerial berth. Speaker Pratapsing Rane was
favoured
by the BJP who allowed him to continue as a Speaker earlier and it was the
BJP
that actually brought Pratapsing Rane's son Vishwajit in public life when he
was
appointed chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation when Manohar
Parrikar was the Chief Minister. Among the MLAs, Francis Silveira was a
minister
in Francisco Sardinha's government which was formed with BJP support so also
was
Mauvin Godinho. Babush Monseratte was a member of the BJP and a minister in
Manohar Parrikar's government and Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar was a
minister in the BJP supported government just like Victoria Fernandes. So
when
Matanhy is asked about his links with the BJP, shouldn't all these above
named
luminaries be also asked to clarify their position?
It is said that one must not try to pick out a speck from another person's
eyes
when there is huge blotch in his own.
