A couple of days ago I read a repot in the media about how the Calungute
Village is going to have a seven metre road built from Baga to Sinquerin as
the traditional road running through the coastal villages is narrow. The
question the people of Calungute should be asking, Is Calungute a village
...?
Calungute is a good example of no planning or bad planning. Take your pick.
The residents should have limited the growth of the number of buildings,
guest houses and so on, so there would be no problem of sustainability.
Today the so-called Calungute Village is really a town, a model for the way
no village in Goa should go! The residents, no doubt, of Calungute will
continue to refer to where they live as their village for years and years to
come ... Cheers!
