At Agassai, Ferry (When there was no bridge until mid 80’s), I remember may ladie were moving around selling it. The rate then was just 25 poixe or 4 anne per fole(cone). Sitting inside the bus, we could pick up or we could buy it through the bus windows. Sometimes, while wait for the Panjim bound bus, we could buy and eat it there. It may be reminded, bus from the south would terminate at Cortalim Jetty, Pax then alight and take Ferry fare was again 25p (early 70s). All buses to Margao used to proceed towards Thana as there was no by-pass or the approach road to new new zuari bridge. Towards Agassaim, I remembere there were buses named ‘Marlim’ or malim’. Again, there were Society’s (St.Lawrence?) buses from Pilar. I think the same society owned the Agassaim cinema theatre near or just befor Pilar Junction (the theatre still there but in ruins). I think it stopped function in mid 80’s. The ticket booking quaters or counters at Agassaim Ferry still there but now taken of by Goa Customs Police. The jetty still used by up to 5 ferries say once in 3 months for about 3 hours. That’s when MOT of the ailing Zuari bridge takes place. However, Cortalim jetty is in use on daily basis as one ferry operated on Cortalim-Madkai route say every 1 or two hours. All ferry travel, all Goa is now free for all including two wheelers.
