The inside story is totally different. First of all, it is a known fact that Americans resumed diplomatic ties with the same dictator, who had developed missiles to reach Israel. At the same time major oil producers like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE were brimming with cash. To kill two birds in one stone, Saddam was 'advised' by some concerned of the misdeeds of certain neighbouring country and if he takes any action, it will be Arab 'internal affair'. Saddam was fooled and instead of demanding ransom as he used to earlier, decided to take over the state, on the false assurance that any action will be treated as 'Arab internal affair'. Once he stayed put, the concerned country's leader announced "Saddam must leave". This was the moment many realised the true intention, that was to clip his wings. Wings they clipped, but in the bargain the Kurdish who were incited by the councerned country withdrew it's support and although Saddam was at arm's length, that country let him free, and his elite republican army put down the Kurdish uprising..that benefitted Turky, one of the key middle east allies of that coumtry, and the threat of Saddam's missiles that was a threat was eliminated, the no fly zone and the oil sale overseen by UN further crippled Saddam. The oil rich countries had to empty their coffers to foot the war bill that amounted to billions of dollars.
Now to talk about Al Qaeda. How come Al Qaeda surfaced after Saddam was deposed? Why Shia and Sunni sectarian radicalism and the horrible violence began? This was when the country was under the occupation of a foreign invader. Even the gullible Bush has admitted that he may have committed some mistake in his midle-east policy, so how knowledgeble some one can be when the individual concerned has agreed to the fact? The violence reduced only because the invading force pocketed influencial "Sunnis" by bankrolling them. Even if Obama wants to bring home his troops, it will not be easy because no one knows what will happen once that happens. I also said, during the desert storm, the fleeing (surrendering) iraqi troops, who were not actually regular troops but farmers and teachers who were given guns and did not even have enough ration to sustain themselves, were carpet bombed, I have seen the pile up of burnt out vehicles throughout the length of the road from Kuwait to Jahra and beyond, Those vehicles must have been full of fleeing poor iraqi troops, who were deployed on orders, they were not there by choice....which civilized country would bomb and kill such fleeing troops? God knows how much depleted nuclear ammunition was dumped on Iraq during the invasion and what about WMD? Did Saddam ate it up? The first action was to repair the Basra oil refinery and start shipping oil...where it went, who pocketed the money? Therefore, the false assertion and pretence would not stand a chance. facts are facts. Creating trouble helps the defence industry, therefore countries like India and Gulf countries are forced to buy costly firghter planes, defence equipment, ammunition and so on supplied by...need I say by whom?
