Somehow it reminds me of 1980's infamous countermanding case Where elections to two assembly seats and on Lok Sabha were canceled or countermanded due to death of a terminally ill candidate. Some smart (as they may have thought) fraudulently got the dying person's nominations paper filled in thus making him a one of the contesting candidates. The man died before the polls and the 2 assembly polls and one Lok Sabha polls were cancelled as per the rules. And the case in still going on and on because it was alleged that some the culprits are lawyers themselves. But sadly, as said before, I can’t vote in Goa as I do not have voting card despite being in Goa for 61 years (with a 10 year gap in between where I visited Goa av.4 times a year) I guess I will have to wait for another 2 years to get me a card. I spoke to one of our Talathi’s agents if I could get one. He said, ‘why not? But will cost you Rs.5000’ I asked why? Am a ghantti here? He replied ‘ I am sorry, that’s the going rate at present whether you are a ghantti or not’ And the money so collected is shared by at least 3 people. I said ‘I will wait for 2 years and get is for free and legally’ Now, you may wish to know 'why wait for 2 more years...' Well, ask me.
