Radio Mirchi organizes Cycle Heritage Tour on World Heritage Day
Goa's Number 1 radio station Radio Mirchi 98.3FM, Goa, commemorates World Heritage Day on April 18, with a "Mirchi Heritage Cycling Tour" in Panjim aimed at generating awareness about Panjim's rich heritage. April 15, Panjim: Get set to commemorate World Heritage Day the Mirchi way with a `Cycling Tour' conceptualized by Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM on 18th April 2009. Launching the campaign in partnership with the Goa Cycle Club, the campaign has been innovatively packaged with on-air and on-ground activities to involve mass audience participation from across Goa. The on-air special shows will cover important aspects of Goa's heritage, interviews with heritage experts from across Goa and special contests on all the shows throughout the day, where listeners can win exciting tour vouchers sponsored by Calizz, Candolim. Interesting highlights of the on-ground activity includes a guided cycle tour of Panjim & Fontainhas by noted historian and heritage expert, Prajal Sakhardande. Says Ethel Da Costa, Station Head, Radio Mirchi 98.3FM, Goa, "The cycle tour is also Radio Mirchi's initiative to bring attention to environmental concerns affecting our heritage through a people participative campaign, because we believe Goa's community concerns are our concerns as well." All cyclists wishing to participate at the Mirchi Heritage Tour, should assemble below the Radio Mirchi office, Miramar, on April 18th by 7.30 am with their own bicycles, sun caps and drinking water. The tour starts at 8.00 am. Cyclists led by Joseph Rodrigues of the Goa Cycle Club will proceed along the main road (D.B Marg) towards the Abade Faria statue. The significance of the statue will be explained by heritage expert, Mr Sakhardande. From there on, cyclists will proceed towards Fontainhas via the Panjim Municipal Garden Road, pass by the Mary Immaculate Church Panjim and halt at Fontainhas, where some of the heritage sites will be explained by Mr Sakhardande. There will also be a quiz on historical facts about Goa, after which participants will cycle back along the Mala route to the Radio Mirchi office for refreshments.
