Thanks Good observations!
This is not what it looks like Let me explain. This is Goa. Wedding (Reception) start time 7.30. Total invitees say 800 Of the 600 expected guests (out of 800) will arrive at the reception venue as follows: 7.30pm Nil 7.45 10 8.00 25 8.15 75 8.30 150 8.45 300 9.00 400 9-10 600 As you can see from above, nearly half the guests arrive at the venue during the time slot 8-45-10pm Bridal couple too will arrive at least one hr later i.e. at around 8.30pm Wedding March will start at around 9pm which takes about 40 minutes including Cake cutting, savod (Toast) etc. Then the first service/snacks with drinks beer, whisky, soft drinks takes about 30 minutes. First dance (after wedding march) is around 10pm, then another- both extended pieces takes about another 30 minutes. Around 10.30 ‘it’s time to go to buffet table’ Eat as much as you can. Around 11 O’ clock, it’s time for the last dance (slow waltz), romantic not just the bridal couple but for others too. Although this is supposed to be the last part of the wedding but for many others ‘buffet’ is the last part and once their stomach is full, off they go (home) leaving a handful to join the last dance as you see on the floor in the video clip. Up to 85% of the guests use their own vehicles including two wheelers. Half of the couple at the last dance would be the one who came with the free transport/buses arranged by the bridal couple. Believe me or not, at our time, the girls parents never allowed their daughters to take part in the last dance saying ‘it was meant for married people only’. About the Goan Bands: - Lynx is one of the best (that’s what others say). - ‘He is a jolly good fellow’’ has become a sort of finishing anthem for all Goan weddings - It has now become a trend with Goan bands (and should be) to play one or two Konkani songs. - When playing Konkani, 90% of the bands would play Lorna’s songs - There are no ‘tap dances now’ where we used to tap on one’s back (Cabalero?) to share a dance with the dame (girl). At our times there were up to two such dances and each often extended to up to 30 minutes. Those days wedding started at 3pm and ended around midnight or start at 10pm and ends around 7am with tea/coffee. There is one thing in Goa that seems will never change Starting the wedding/reception or functions on time. Even the 10 o’clock deadline rule/law will not change the Goan ‘Sucegadponn’ Quote: [Goanet] Ending Part of Popular Goan wedding (With LYNX) ________________________________________ Amazing! Goan bands seem frozen in time. Forty years later, they play the same music I heard them play in the 1970's. And what kind of a wedding was this? A big dance floor and only about 10 couples doing ‘he's a jolly good fellow’ prior to hoisting the bridal couple above the shoulders?? Were the rest of them drunk, or should they have had the wedding in a small restaurant on the beach? Everyone seems to have money but not the brains to know what to do with it.
