Thanks to everyone who helped with more inputs. If you had a good experience with a place or two, pls add to this list... this is the least we can do to promote one of the things Goa is good at (food, music, football)
* Panjim Tato, definitely. * Alisha, the one opp the new Secretariat at Porvorim * Samrat near Chogm X roads. in Saligao, opp the old flour mill. * Bambolim, traditional restaurant near the Fulancho Cross. * A great place called Alankar opp the Maharaja Hotel...uumon for Rs 10 is great, taali for Rs 25 and crab maasale/suken to die for at Rs 35. * Also great is Fankit's bro-in-laws place in Utorda..... great food and naturally pricey. * In Vasco, there are no mo Goichi Catholic places. There is Tides (around Maharaja Hotel) in but the smell of grease mixed with a wiff of feni gives one the effect of breathing moon air! * In Vasco, another place is Bhosle... no take outs but small hold in the wall (do mostly catering) next to the old Hotel Goes on Swatantra Path. * At Porvorim, Biryani Palace and the Chinese/tandoori fast food joint on Bakibab Borkar Rd (leading to XCHR, etc). BP offers good take-aways, delicious if rich! * At Porvorim too, there's another fast-food place just near the Water Tank. Good VFM and warm food. Another modest place near the Water Tank is Ajay Govenkar's Royal Restaurant [Ph 5622008 Mob 9226344459] They serve an average fish-curry-rice Rs 35. * Have been hearing some good things about Casino's, which focuses on Goan food. But is it true that their quality varies? * Came across this place offering an unusual Catholic Goan fare (pork sorpatel, beef assado, pork vindalo) in Porvorim: My Place, Near Holy Family Church, Porvorim Ph 0832-3261130. * "Konkanni ''(thali @ Rs 30 wt fish, special thali is Rs 40) plus other ''aizche" special. Next to Cafe Tato's, behind Grace Church, Margao. Awesome Konkan khaana. * Archies' bar n Resto, Amborra Loutulim (around 1000 metres prior to Borim bridge on the Margao-Ponda Highway, not inside Loutolim. Best for seafood with drinks. * Cafe Tato, behind Grace Church, Margao * Marissa Seafood, adjoining Vincy Resorts, Colva. Excellent fish n ''jevonn" (Rs 40). The ambot tik is super. Veggies have a choice of daal-papad instead of xitt kodi. * Kishore's at Bainguinim between Star Bar and Sripad Naik's house. * Pergola at Panjim and 3. * Mardol on the Verna highway, "my favourite" * Rudy's Bar, "had the best roast beef there for 40 bucks a plate... it's on the Saligao-Panjim road just after that offroad grill place." Is it true Marliz is a different creature after it changed hands? Madgaokars?
