Commemoration of 44th Birth Anniversary of Dr.Jack de Sequeira On 20th of April 2007 Goa is going to commemorate the 44th Birth Anniversary of Dr.Jack de Sequeira commonly known as the father of the Opinion Poll-1967. The poll was conducted on the recommenddation of the central govt.to settle the issue whether Goa should remain a seperate state or it should merge with the state of Maharastra.The said poll was suppose to be the first of its kind in the history of free India. After a long battle the poling was held on 1th of January 1967 and Dr. Jack de Sequeira who was the architect single handedly piloted the Goan ship with the thumping majority. The merger issue was solved with the overwhelming lead of more then one lakh, thirtyfour thousands settling the issue for once and for all. Late V.M.Salgaokar, Babu Naik and Salmalkar supportMed Dr.Sequeira to conduct and campaigned for the two leaves.Mr.Bhau Saheb Bandodkar who belongs to Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party wanted to merge Goa into Maharastra worked hard to fullfill his dream of selling Goa into the hands of Maharastrians. But the towering personality like Dr. Sequeira worked hard and defeated the mergerist forces to safeguard our Identity and mother tongue Konkani so that we have our own seperate state. The slogan of opinion poll Maharastra Zallach Pahijee was crushed very badly and Goa Zallach Pahijee was aired on the each and every party of Goan street.
