I received an email from a Goan Overseas Association (GOA) Toronto executive
member informing me that there is talk of Kevin Saldanha running for president
of the association. He wants to challenge Oscar Furtado who has been at the
helm for maybe at least four terms.
In a democratic setup, opposing an incumbent is part of the process. Oscar has
worked hard to build the association and wants to continue his work. Those who
have met and seen him work an attest to what I have said. Some years ago I
asked him if he wasn't tired of running the GOA. He said he would quit if
someone that he thinks would be an asset to the association comes forward to
lead it.
I doubt Kevin fits the bill. Forget how he ran the Goan International
Convention and perhaps many will say I am bias because of what I wrote about
it. No doubt would probably want to win the elections on the false canard that
the convention, of which he
The most recent news I heard from Toronto is that Kevin called the Goan
Netters Association of Toronto (GNAT) and allegedly "dissolved" without
inviting the president Francis Rodriques and secretary Bosco D'Mello.
Francis is the founder-president and the man who originally thought of and
worked to form the association. Besides, most constitutions of association
gives the right to call a meeting to the secretary. On what basis Kevin called
the meeting is a moot point.
There is also talk that Francis has initiated legal proceedings against Kevin.
Perhaps Francis himself or some GNAT members on this forum can clarify.
The GOA AGM is on April 19. Goanetters in Toronto should make it a point to
attend and vote for Oscar.
