Lack of Good Leaders in Goa -I

NOT very long ago, Goans had pride in their good dedicated political
leaders
who withstood all political storms for value-based politics and showered
blessings
on the people who elected them to guide the destiny of Goa. These politicians
were
the ones who aspired for the welfare of all Goans. But today, we witness a
surge of
leaders who at the drop of a hat change parties and colours for vested
interests of
their own. Today, we have all witnessed how political leaders have amassed huge
wealth at the cost of the development of Goa and Goans alike. Goans need to
come up
with alternatives, comb for new leaders who will wholeheartedly work for the
development of Goa and its people. I wish we could have the option of rejecting
a
candidate, if we were not satisfied with the given choice.

Lack of Good Leaders in Goa-II
THE opposition and dilly-dallying to the Mopa Airport project and the
Dhargal Sports Complex smacks of a narrow, shortsighted vision and shaky will
of the
people in power. The editorial ?Elasticity Quotient? about progress on Mopa
(NT,
April 21) is excellently truthful. It is shocking that the persons who cannot
even
nurture a comprehensive view of the integrated and well balanced growth of only
3702
sq kms that is Goa, get the opportunity to be responsible for the progress and
welfare of about 1,147,996,000 people, spread over 3,287,340 sq kms. The whims
and
fancies of a few must not prevail to victimise the long-term economic glory of
Goa
as a whole.

Our Margao Bureau adds: The returning officer for the South Goa LS
seat, Mr
Mihir Vardhan and the South Goa SP, Mr Alen D?Sa told a press conference that
the
polling was peaceful except for two cases which were registered with the Ponda
police wherein one Mr Santosh Patkar complained that he was assaulted by Mr
Harshad
and Mr Santosh Kothambikar over distributing money and transporting voters.
While
one Mr Viju Borkar from Borim alleged that he was assaulted by one Mr Dayanad
Gawade
for deserting the BJP and joining the Congress.
The Margao town police have registered an offence against former MMC

sub-divisional police officer, Mr Shamba Sawant lodged the complaint under
section
188 of the IPC against Mr Mahatme for allegedly using mobile phone at the
polling
booth at Adarsha. The police said the use of a mobile phone is violation of
guidelines of the Election Commission and a cognizable offence. The police have
seized two mobile phones he was using. Mr Mahatme was hauled up to the police
station for questioning.
Interestingly the Quepem and Canacona markets remained closed as the
polling
booths were housed right in the centre of the markets forcing the traders to
keep
their shutters down, much to their dislike. One of the traders from Canacona
said
that they have time and again approached the Election Commission to shift this
polling booth a few metres away. However, all requests have fallen on deaf
ears. He
informed that around 400 shopkeepers have to keep their shutters down because
they
fall within 200 metres of the booth.
