*NO DEATH OF PIGS REPORTED, GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN* *Panaji, April 28, 2009*
A Government spokesman today clarified that there are no cases of death of pigs at Siolim, Velsao, Agassaim as reported in section of press today. As soon as the report on a section of press was read, Dr. H. Faleiro, Director of Animal Husbandry, deputed his team of Officers to Siolim and Velsao to find out the veracity of the report. But it has been found that there are no such cases of pig’s death found at Siolim, Velsao, Agassaim and surrounding areas. Immediately the Animal Husbandry Department has sounded a state wide alert to keep a close surveillance on the movement and behaviour of pigs and report to the Director to Animal Husbandry for action. Till late evening to day no case of death of pigs has been reported. The Animal Husbandry authorities have therefore said that the report appearing in the section of the press is totally unfounded and baseless.
