Stage is set for May Queen Ball 2009 show

A number of prizes await audiences at May Queen Ball 2009 to be hosted by Goan 
Welfare Association on Thursday at The Diplomatic Club.

Prizes will be given in the form of gold coins and electronic items, apart from 
KLM's 
Doha-Amsterdam-Doha ticket for the winner of May Queen Ball.

For the first time since the event started about a decade ago, two properties 
in 
India will be given away as prizes. Prizes also include stay of seven nights 
for 
four in Goa.

The winner of the competitions will be eligible to participate in the May Queen 
Ball 
to be hosted by Bahrain's Young Goans Club.

Simon D'Silva, president of the association, said yesterday that apart from the 
crowning of the May Queen 2009, several other fun-filled entertainment events 
have 
been planned at this year's show.

Prominent Goans from Gulf States will be among those attending the 
celebrations, he 
said.

Francis Correia, president of Young Goans Club Bahrain, will lead a 15-member 
group 
at the May 9 event, said the organisers.

Chairman of Goan Cultural Center Carmo Santos, and president of Colva United 
Centre, 
also of Kuwait Alex Fernandes and team members will grace the show, according 
to the 
organisers.

Added attractions of the event would be Slumdog Millionaire choreographer 
Longinus 
Fernandes' dance sequences of "Jai Ho" and "Pappu Can't Dance ." and Bollywood 
comedian Jimmy Moses' comedy and mimicry.

One of Goa's leading bands, Forefront, will render a performance during the 
event.

A newscaster on one of the regional GCC channels, Karishma Fernandez, and 
presenter 
and Goa's ace compere Updesh Swar will be the mood-setters.

Following the requests from the community, ticket sales have been extended to 
tomorrow, said D'Silva.
