Thanks Mervyn and Chacha for adding to the debate... and reducing my ignorance a wee bit.
Please note, I didn't come out aggressively to suggest that Mario's original statement was incorrect (though there could be further scope for debate) but only put up a tentative question saying: > Which Latin American country had a Black president? In the bargain, I was forced to wonder what exactly goes into forming "Latin America", and who exactly is a "Black". While JC might cringe to hear me quoting his favourite knowledge gathering tool, the Wikipedia, there's some very insightful perspectives (never mind that it was built by the "intelligent mob") in these two pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_people Thanks again, FN PS: Again, "young" (like "Latin" and "Black") is a verrrry relative term! >> Which Latin American country had a Black president? FN > Young, Rico...sans barbe... > Hispaniola...Santo Domingo...Haiti..have had a long succession of > black & creole presidents, most notorious most of them, in our times: > Papa Doc..President for life, Baba Doc...Abbé Aristides ...so on..
