Help others be better informed CONSUMERS. ------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN to observe LPG Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe a LPG Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight from 9th to 22nd May. The fortnight long program seeks to address the lack of awareness on consumer rights, the complaint procedures and redressal mechanisms available to the LPG consumers in Goa.
During the fortnight GOACAN will highlight the need for "consumer literacy" among LPG consumers so that they make an effort to read their rights and write their complaints. In order to draw public and media attention to LPG consumer issues during the fortnight, visits to LPG dealers will be organised to verify whether consumers are getting home delivery of cylinders, computerised bills are issued on payment of the amount, the facility of checking the weight of the cylinder at the time of delivery is given and bi-annual mandatory safety check of equipment at the residence of the consumer is done. Consumer Forum activists will also organise "phone in's" with the officials of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and the Departments of Legal Metrology, Civil Supplies and Fire & Emergency Services to check the level of monitoring of LPG services to consumers in Goa. During the fortnight, consumer activists will publicise the official email address, telephone and fax numbers of HP Gas, Bharat Gas and Indane and highlight the redressal avenues available for LPG Consumer Complaints. Consumer Forum activists will also publicize at the village level the price of the LPG cylinder, the transportation costs where applicable, the Cash-n-Carry Rebate of Rs.8/- per cylinder and the importance of using only Suraksha LPG Hoses for safety.
