Fleming graduated in Civil Engineering from University of Poona in 1954. He

Michigan Research Institute, he worked on air pollution control and researched
the
influence of smoke from factories located around Pittsburgh. Fleming undertook
aerodynamic studies to learn the effect of sonic boom in airport structures. In
1962, he joined Zenith Radio Corp, where he holds patents on 2 technologies, FM
(frequency modulation) and SAW (surface acoustic wave). In 1972, Fleming worked
at
Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California until his retirement in 1997. As a
result
of his persistent effort, Fleming earned around 40 US patents. His inventions
include patents on ultrasound imaging devices, invasive blood pressure devices,
intravascular ultrasound imaging devices, etc. His list of inventions can be
found
on Google by searching J Fleming Dias. After his very successful career in US,
he
retired in the French Riviera with his friend Anne Cline.

Although he received outstanding achievements, Fleming remained modest and
forever
grateful to all those who supported and cared for him. He loved to be with his
family and friends when he was vacationing at his home in Goa. Fleming was very
caring and kept closely in touch with his whole family and friends, while
living on
three continents during his life. His perseverance and unyielding support made
Fleming a role model for many of his nephews, nieces and cousins who later
excelled
and became successful professionals. We bid Adieus to the great son of Goa.

Fleming is the son of Late Luis Bismark Dias (Campal, Panjim, Goa), who was
Goa's
PWD chief engineer during the Portuguese rule, who was known for designing the
town
of Vasco De Gama and Hilda Rodrigues, Navelim, Goa. He leaves behind his loving
sisters and brother in-law Rui Lopes (Vasco), Mariazinha Joannes (Margao),
Maria
Lourdes Pereira (Bombay), Maria Luisa Vaz (Campal), nephews and nieces.
