GULF-GOANS e-NEWSLETTER (since 1994) Extraordinary feat of public spirit - Ronald Colaco shows how By Team Mangalorean Photographs: Rajesh Shetty Mangalore May 19, 2009: Non Resident Indian Mr Ronald Colaco who is known for his Philanthropic endeavors has constructed the Mulihithlu Tillery road at the cost of Rs 16 Lakhs, and dedicated it to the use of public through the Mangalore City Corporation. The road was inaugurated today by the deputy commissioner of Mangalore V Ponnuraj. Mr Colaco who understood the needs of the local people in Mulihithlu area where his mother Alice Colaco also lives, constructed the road for their convenience. The Mulihithlu Tillery road which was the second cross that connects Bolar, was earlier a small lane and now has been developed and widened with interlock and bitumen tarmac.
On this occasion, Mr Ponnuraj said that the private public co-operation was very important in the life of a city. This donation of Mr Colaco has opened a new vista in public private co-operation in Mangalore city. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Colaco, said that the Govt can take up developmental works in its own limits due to its own procedures and funding limits. But when entrepreneurs and philanthropists come forward to take up civic amenities like roads, the quality of public life will improve. On this same occasion, Mr Colaco also donated 100 mini garbage bins and also said that he will soon take up an alternative lighting system for the road. Mr Colaco was felicitated on this occasion by Mr Sameer Shukla, MLA Abhayajandra Jain, Mayor Shankar Bhat and local coroporator Prema Muralidhar. On this occasion, Mayor of Mangalore Mr R Shankar Bhat, and Mangalore city corporation commissioner Shameer Shukla were also present on the occasion.
