"Could something so simple help psoriasis sufferers?"

Yes and no.

I have been a psoriasis patient for over 20 years. It is stable now, but I am
currently not undergoing any form of treatment for psoriais other than using
urea-based moisturising creams; instead, I am concentrating on other issues
(e.g. diabetes) which may have been the cause of the flareups. I underwent
narrow-band UVB therapy for a number of years during the winter months, then
the specialist put me on a few months of UVA as UVB did not seem to provide any
improvement. I haven't been under the "tubes" now for over two years (this will
be my third winter - I hope I don't have to undergo any more therapy).

The thing about UVB therapy, at least in my case, is that it promises immediate
improvement initially, then it peters off. Subsequent years, it appears one
needs more and more - almost like an addiction, for the same level of
improvement. For some, it might be a "cure", for others, especially if
psoriasis is as a result of adult chicken-pox (which I had at age 36) or other
skin "trauma" like constant chaffing (those permanently on crutches, for
example), psoriaisis will not go away. As a result of using various steroidal
creams over the years in the past, the skin on my shins has become so delicate
that it only needs a slight abrasion for it to bleed. My suggestion to any
readers suffering from psoriasis is to keep use of such creams to an absolute
minimum.

Gabriel.
