Subject: Goa polluted by Karnataka?

Dear Floriano,
Yesterday I had attended a technical lecture on renewable sources of electrical energy when I learnt that the United States is largely phasing out nuclear power plants As a result of a Google Search I have found the following graph for the US in 2005:

One can raise a legitimate question as to when renewable sources of energy are available in India in a big way (wind generators) why has Manmohan Singh signed a nuclear deal with the US? A gentleman present at the lecture yesterday, half Goan, enlightened me that just outside the Goa border at Majali a huge nuclear generating station has appeared and the surrounding area, once landscaped with lush forests on hills, is now denuded, there is massive soil erosion, rain clouds are less attracted, and nuclear waste is being dumped into the sea resulting in sea pollution and contamination of fish in Goa. Are the people of Goa aware of this development and, if so, what are they doing about it?
Kind regards,
John
