Did Selma check if Goan Catholic freedom fighters were honoured in past lists?
Maybe, some will be featured next year or year after that.
Why call this "insidious writing"? If Selma cares to read the history of Goan
freedom struggle, she will learn that many Goan Catholics were in the
forefront. Check the Who's Who of Freedom Fighters brought out by Dr. Prakash
Shirodkar.
What silly comparision between Goan Catholics were
twiddling their thumbs and playing the fiddle much like Nero, while Goa was
being liberated."
Goa wasn't burning as Rome was. Or, was it, dear Selma? Goa was being liberated
and, in the circumstances, did Selma expect that Goans rush with their
"coittus" to prevent Goa from being liberated?
Again, check freedom history why Lohia landed in Goa. What does it matter if he
was from Uttar Pradesh? He was a national leader of great standing.
The role of Goan Catholics have been documented, though there could be some
ommissions. If someone with knowledge of any Goan Catholics who played crucial
roles during the freedom struggle have been left out should bring it to public
notice through the media or write to the concerned ministry. A fight for
justice for such Goan Catholics should begin.
True, as they say, there were some "freedom fighters" and some were "freedom
shouters." It would need a finely-skilled historian to sort them out and place
them into respective categories. Perhaps, a "revisionist" history is called
for.
There may be students doing their thesis on Goan freedom struggle. They may be
interested in taking a serious look into the issue of non-recognition of some
Goan Catholic freedom fighters.
Are there not places, institutions named after some Goan Catholic freedom
fighters? I am not sure about monuments.
Anyway, who the bleep cares about Selma's newly-acquired knowledge of Goan
freedom history?
