It is quite heartening to read that a Freedom fighter on ‘Revolution day’ has
finally publicly criticised the state of affairs prevailing in Goa today in
respect of corruption, Law & order and Civic sense; and admitting that gone are
the days when life and property were much safer, a sign that at least some are
in touch with reality. Whereas their President is still having paranoid
delusions and even a sneeze sounding like Portuguese will cause a ‘stress
reaction’ in him. Take the issue of Basilica de Bom Jesus; admitting the
labourers and material is very much Goan, is the architecture, engineering,
dedication and sincerity Goan? Or Indian? How many structure built in their so
called post “Liberation” of Goa period could even withstand a couple of
decades? The Mandovi and Zuari bridges, the Goa Medical Complex; just to name a
few, are perfect examples of how constructions are undertaken by Goan governing
bodies.
“Liberty” does not mean a right to make irrational statements. Nor does it give
a right to do whatever one wants by inconveniencing others. It gives you a
right to express and discuss your school of thoughts in a rational and
civilised manner. Which means, if you are not rational or civilised, you do not
deserve this liberty in midst of civilisation.
