South Asian film fete to focus on youth

PANAJI: The 4th South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) to be organised in Goa from 
June 26 
to 29 will be held with a focus on youth, Jeetendra Deshprabhu of the SAFF 
committee 
told mediapersons on Thursday.

"This festival will try to give an expression to the younger generation. We are 
trying to motivate young artists and expecting a large number of youth to be 
part of 
the festival," Deshprabhu said. He said that various film clubs, 
socio-political 
groups and several media institutes in the state have been contacted for 
participation.

Responding to a question on how the state benefits from film festivals held in 
the 
state, Deshprabhu said, "There is tremendous touristic gain. Besides, various 
famous 
film producers and directors now look at Goa as a destination to film their 
movies. 
And this is bound to increase revenue for the state. It will also benefit 
youngsters 
in the state in terms of employment."

Manoj Srivastava, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa said that the number 
of 
film shootings in the state have gone up to 119 this year from 60 last year. 
Srivastava said that Goan filmmakers are also coming forward now more then ever 
to 
make more films.

At the 4th South Asian Film Festival over 60 movies from Afghanistan, 
Bangladesh, 
Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be screened in 
addition 
to the special screening of 12 Iranian films.

Four categories of films will be screened at the festival which include 
classic, 
short films, documentary films and mainstream films.
