Dears, I will try and focus our attention on this topic, and then add a comment (or two) on the posts of Ana Maria de Souza-Goswami and Valley Faleiro. I will ignore the tripe posted by Rina Mukherji.
It is my belief (and you can correct me IF you wish) that the positions on the tableĀ are as follows: 1: The Goa Govt will be acting illegaly (according to the principles of common law) - in other words like Zimbabwe's Mugabe IF it confiscates legally purchased property by way of enacting legislation which is retrospectively effective. 2: Only communist countries (and perhaps Commie chaps and chapppies in Bengal and Kerala) would possibly consider such actions as being acceptable and just. 3: This subject is absolutely irrelevant to whether any Indian has legally purchased or puchases property in Australia, the UK or Timbuktu. 4: It strictly deals with the central question: Do we accept that we need to follow the Rule of Law? Yes or No. Leave the rest of the falalfal out of this. Comments on the posts: Ana Maria de Souza-Goswami states that "the most obnoxious and rude people on theĀ streets are the Goans" jc: This young lady must keep very obnoxious and rude company, OR Goans have changed significantly over the past couple of years. I have personally not met a single Goan who I can classify as 'obnoxious and rude'. But then again, I have not met any of the the present-day Goa politicians. Wonder what happened to all the cultured Goans Gabriel and I knew in Goa. Did they all migrate? Ana Maria de Souza-Goswami while stating that "Goa has the second highest per capita income" complains about these foreigners who pay 'their domestic staff Rs. 5,000/- a day'. She asks ...."can a normal Indian pay that in goa?" I suppose this is the Crux of the matter. Money, rather "cheap labour". She also wonders whether Goans "will do the jobs"? I know the answer to that question: it is "NO" . I would not do it unless you pay me a livable wage.. You guys are not looking to pay labour a 'living wage', you guys are looking for cheap labour. After all, the labour then can go and squat and perform their normal functions on someone else's land. Ain't that a fact? Valley Faleiro states that "we" do not really want 'foreigners' to buy property in Goa - ostensibly as "we" have seen property prices go up in Goa. This is protectionist and quite unconnected to the major reason why property prices have sky-rocketed in Goa......but fair. ONLY ....(unless you are a Commie or a Mugabe) legislate retroactively. Valley Faleiro then goes on to say "I might as well invest in a smaller place in Mumbai than pay the price in Goa'! Hello! sez Atmaram Dhokale from Worli Naka: You Goans stick to you Dhobi Talao and "Aunty's" feni shops. You can come and enjoy all our sights and smells of the rest of Mumbai, but we Maharashtrians do not want you to buy here. We already are a minority in our Mumbai. Enough. You go back. You people coming and buying here is causing the home prices to sky-rocket. Bus... challa. Go back to Goa. There is a bus leaving in 10 minutes" Sincerely jc
