The Nationalist Congress Party which was formed on the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin has outlived its purpose and returning to the parent party may be the only option. With even P.A Sagma reconciling to the fact that Sonia's origin is a non-issue, the party sooner or later will be laid to rest.
Recently, in Goa, the party had to import a candidate from the parent Congress party for the North Goa Lok Sabha Seat. It has now exported a party leader from the North by appointing him Senior vice president in charge of South Goa. This Senior Vice –president has now also been entrusted the reigns of whatever remains of NCP in Goa. This reputed doctor may not be able to do much to salvage a party that has been already pronounced dead by another doctor, the former party president, a surgeon par excellence known for his precision. With NCP Minister Micky Pacheco vowing not to step into casinos we could see him indulge in some political gambling in preparation for the next Assembly elections. It should surprise no one if he opts for a regional party to contest in the newly carved Nuvem constituency. The UGDP with its newly found symbol of scissors may come handy. With no permanent friends or foes in politics he may even decide to team up with his arch rival Churchill Alemao to trim Congress to size. Goa has been known to be a laboratory for political experiments. Aires Rodrigues Ribandar
