With so much money to be gained by the politicians and police all over Goa, this form of illegal gambling which has roots deeper than the coconut tree all over Goa is unlikely to come to an end. But, then, again I could be wrong. With a lot of activists advocating a lot of causes in Goa today it remains to be seen if the politicians will have reached a point of no return and indeed vote for the legalization of matka rather than take on the mighty force of Goan public opinion. They can always look for greener and virgin pastures elsewhere.
