Salgaocar U-15  ready for battle in Manchester

PANJIM, JULY 29


Salgaocar Sports Club, India will rub shoulders against the best teams in the 
world 
in the finals of Manchester United Premier Cup Under-15 football tournament in 
Carrington, Manchester from August 5-9.

It has been one of the many accomplishments of Salgaocar's youth development 
programme that saw their team winning the Manchester United Premier Cup U-15 
India 
finals 2009 in Goa.

Some of the teams that will fixture in the MUPC World Finals are A S 
Roma(Italy), 
Madrid (Spain), West Bromwich (England), Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Right 
to 
Dream (Ghana), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Arsenal (USA), Colo-Colo (Chile), Manchester 
United (host team), and teams from Korea, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Australia, 
Hungary, France and Mexico.

Salgaocar were close to winning the MUPC 2008 India finals only to finish 3rd 
in the 
final round behind St Stephen's, Chandigarh and Mahindra United, Mumbai.

MUPC 2009 was a different story alltogether as Salgaocar went on to win the 
MUPC 
2009 India finals held in Goa defeating Raghav FC, Haryana 2-0.

Francisco Bruto da Costa, coach of the team, said that his team was all set to 
give 
a good account of themselves in Manchester. "The team comprises a bunch of 
talented 
youngsters who are eager to prove themselves."

Francisco highlighted the role of the management of the club which has always 
been 
supportive of  the youth development programme and never deprived the players 
and 
the team, as a whole, of the required facilities. He praised the parents of the 
players who have been very cooperative and have spared no efforts in the 
development 
of their wards. He also expressed his gratitude for the co-operation extended 
by the 
principals of the schools.

R A J Gomes, General Secretary, said that he was very happy with the youth 
development programme and that in the future he wanted to see many more players 
graduating to the senior team.

"The U-15 team which will be participating in the World Finals only speaks 
volumes 
of our youth Programme. Most of these players have been with us for three years 
and 
are now ready to rub shoulders with the best," RAJ stated

Raj had a word of appreciation to the official sponsors of the team for all the 
support and cooperation extended during the India finals. "We are looking 
forward 
for their continuous support during the tournament in England," he added.

 RAJ praised his youth coaching wing, headed by  Francisco Bruto da Costa, 
technical 
director, Youth Development, who has an AFC 'A' License, coaches Micdomio 
Rebello 
(AFC 'B' License), Augustine Antao (AFC 'C' License) and Soccoro Vaz (AFC 'C' 
License) and Anthony Noronha - manager of U-12, U-14, U-15 and U-16 age group 
teams, 
and Ignatius Dias - manager of U-18 and U-19 teams.

Shivanand Salgaocar, President of the club said he was happy to see the U-15 
team 
representing India on world stage, as it was a realization of a dream that was 
conceived in the heart of his father, founder president of VM Salgaocar Group 
of 
Companies. It was his ardent desire to give a platform to the Goan youth to 
showcase 
their talent to the country, and to the world. "I wish to see one day that the 
core 
of Salgaocar Sports Club team comprises of all Goans."

Shivanand felt that a lot more could be done and he has plans to start U-8 and 
U-10 
age group teams. "I wish the U-15 team all the best in the Manchester United 
Premier 
Cup 2009 World Finals and I am confident this good work will continue growing 
in the 
years to come."
