This was around 10pm. While heading to Kala Academy, we notice the guy (Victim) walking in the street DB Road and asking for lift. We stopped at KA to see the Tiatr bill boards and soon took a turn to go back home. At this time we saw some guys gathered just before the bus s top/shed. We to rushed to see what happening. He was the same guy (Mergulianv?) who must have collapsed . They say 108 was called 5 minutes ago. At this time the crowd was about 20 people, many stopped by including a young long hair chap in his racer type small car who says he knows this guy too as he often see him at football matches etc. He then put some money in his pocket a bundle of 100 rupees notes must be Rs.1000 in all. The 108 ambulance still not come. We saw a police man on his bike coming..everybody thought he is coming in response to the 108 call.. But despite seeing the crowd he did not even bother to stop and enquire. May be he was on special Minister’s duty. Police van and 108 arrived same times. If 20-25 minutes response time for emergencies in a capital city, I wonder what it takes in the villages and remote area. We always see a 108 infront of Panjim Police Station, May be it was on another call at that time. May be I am wrong. I am also copying this to 108 to clarify. see cc above. They (Ploice in civil?) asked the name of the victim, he says they need a name, no body knows, although some say they (including us) know this guy by face as he is very popular at football matches and tiatr. Some say he is mercurad other say Mergullianv. We too know this guy by face may be he is from Taleigao. He is short, always with newspaper in his hand and must be in his early 40’s. We see him at tiatr too. Last time we saw him on stage in Domnic Carvalho’s tiatr ‘Tim Odik Bhagi’ at Kala Academy during the last scene where people (many non-actors) with placards in their hands to protest against ‘Mega housing projects’ etc T he audience created a huge humgama seeing the chap ‘Mergulinao’ on stage until the director told him go off the stage. I also remember seeing him at M Boyer’s funeral at Raia. JoeGoaUk says: It could be anyone including you and me (young or old) Do we carry necessary identifications with us all the times? I mean all the times including while going for a walk or jogging just outside your home. A small card with father/mother/wife/husband or next of kin name and tel nos could ideally be placed in you wallet and carry the same with you all the time. If there are no contact details, then there are chances that Goa Police or the hospitals treating you like a road side migrant. In absence of any family members at hospitals, it can severely affect the treatment and could result in more complications or death. At GMC you are some one if you know some one or have influence.
