Sangath, www.sangath.com, is looking to build a centre for services, training and research and seeks to buy approx 1500 to 2000 sq mtrs land betweeen Mapusa and Bambolim and surrounding rural areas. Who in the Goa Government, Police or Panjim Municipality cares about where and how people park? The Town planners have never done any provisioning for parking of cars and 2-wheelers! The city/town of Panjim had requirement of garages for all the residents, until the builders bribed their way into getting those rules changed and bypassed, so that they could make more money! The FSI or Floor Space Index was changed and politicians and builders prospered. Panjim Municipality authorizes shops and stalls all over. Nobody ever cares if there is any adequate parking or fire escapes from buildings that these are housed in. Life goes on! Having been a longtime resident of Campal, during any big event on the Football/Cricket grounds, people come and park their cars, 2-wheelers, blocking access for all the residents to even get their cars/2-wheelers out!! Nobody cares! It is very frustrating to see how the public in general behave. There is absolutely zero civic sense. Chowgule Industries was allowed to open a showroom for Maruti cars in the 80s. And very soon it became not only showroom but a full-fledged garage with repairs and storage of dangerous waste! To the residents living in the adjoining buildings the constant noise of horns and revving up of cars is a constant nuisance. Then comes the parking of cars on any adjoining road or the main road by the employees of Chowgules and those coming to buy new cars. The PMC and the politicians have been made aware of the situations but then money talks and Chowgules and Maruti/Suzuki folks do the talking! One only hopes that there does not arise an emergency situation in the area like a fire, wherein the Fire Brigade cannot have access to the buildings due to roads clogged with bikes and cars blocking every avenue. I hope that your efforts to highlight all the problems you noticed around Kala Academy, bear some fruit! In the past, I have only seen genuine action from Sanjit Rodrigues of PMC, whenever such issues have been brought to his notice.
