You will agree then, an "accused terrorist" does not a terrorist make. Here is an excerpt of the article from the teachers union standing up for the professor's rights: Diab, a Canadian citizen since 1993, faces allegations by French authorities of having participated in a bombing of a synagogue in Paris in 1980. It has not even been legally determined yet whether there is any reasonable evidence to extradite Diab just to stand trial, let alone to convict him. The judge in his case, Robert Maranger, said, "In my view, this is not a case where extradition is a rubber stamp or foregone conclusion." To see why the group of teachers protested the University's sacking of Hassan Diab, read their letter to Ottawa's leading English language daily (Ottawa's dual language is French). http://www.ottawacitizen.com/business/Carleton+wrong+fire+Hassan+Diab/1852462/story.html Most Goan Canadians like myself think the country goes too far in it's liberal views. When when real issues happen though, we reason and come to the conclusion we are thankful that we are not the United States. Certainly I would not like Prof Diab to be jailed or extradited merely because the B'nai Brith exerts it's pressure on due process. You may be proud to live in Goa and best wishes to you. But no Speaker of any House here in Canada will dare to threaten Samir Kelekar in the manner Pratapsinh Rane did in the Goa Assembly. Regards, Roland.
