Goanet highlights by Selma Carvalho In what can truly be described as a historic week for Goanet, one prominent Goanetter, Samir Kelekar, son of the freedom fighter, Gurunath Kelekar, was threatened by the Speaker of the assembly with possible imprisonment for overstepping his bounds in an article carried by the Goan daily Herald. Mr Rane, the speaker, seems unaware of the fact that the democracy of Goa does not belong to him. It belongs to generations that came before him, to men like Gurunath Kelekar who fought for it and it belongs to the generations that will come after him, who shall drink deeply of the freedom of speech guaranteed by our constitution. Here are some snapshot posts pertaining to this debate:

In an era when Konkani cinema made a tepid debut in the world of celluloid, Rita Lobo starred in the movie Amchem Noxib, a Mangalorean woman who doubtless was the Liz Taylor of her times. Tomazinho Cardozo during the inaugural speech at the Kala academy, made the point that trying to produce generations of Goans in the Diaspora who will speak the Konkani language is an impossible mission, but our music can be preserved for posterity and in this Francis has performed an invaluable service to his community.
