Your comments reflect why some posts are not worth reading; after the first talking point is encountered; totally unconnected to the issue being discussed. And if one does not read the post, the desire to reply is non-existent. Let me respond to Nunes' remarks about the American healthcare. The fact that America in 2009 cannot get its act together in formulating a sensible healthcare policy, reveals how far back we have fallen in the civilized world. More and more Americans (including the reputable) instead of being ashamed of our performance (as a society), are proud of it. This applies on the right and the left. Examples include our failing grades in all the benchmarks in healthcare, education, law-and order including prison-population, violence including gun-violence, etc. In my opinion the decadence is because; instead of various groups bringing their strengths to the table (of solutions); they bring their vested-interests, greed and weaknesses .... while leaving their common-sense at the door. In healthcare, Conservatives upholding their convictions should be strong on delivering cost-effective medical care; as healthcare at 17% of GDP is choking-off American business. If healthcare was cheap; instead of twice what it costs (per person) in other countries, coverage for some situations and some people would be a non-issue. But we are left with a disconnect as in case of the "conservative Christians" who are against insuring a small segment of illegal immigrants; but will insists on providing them medical care in the most expensive setting - the Emergency Room. On the other side of the political divide, I am still uncertain how merely a single payer will reduce healthcare costs. We certainly have not done that in Medicare. There is little encouragement for seniors to live healthier lives and for doctors and hospitals to provide them cost-effective medicine. My solution has been for politicians (and their fellow-travelers) to get out of the way. Get some healthcare experts to develop a plan. And realize that a perfect plan will need fine-tuning as we go along and as new challenges are encountered. For now, America would do best by just learning from other countries that manage things better than us. But our blinders prevent us from doing even that. Regards, GL
