Folks,
Despite all the problems the US faces today, the conservatives are focusing all
their energy on the exposing the possibility that Obama might be the the second
US President to be born in Canada. Obama's sister still lives here. Last week,
The Toronto Star had the following article that contends that Chester A.
Arthur, the 21st president of the United States, was the first US President
born in Canada. Here is the link:

Some excerpts:
"The question over Arthur's birthplace didn't arise until the 1880 presidential
campaign, when Arthur – a Republican – became the running mate for James
Garfield. After President Garfield was shot by an assassin in July 1881 and
died in September of blood poisoning, Arthur was sworn in as president.

According to Thomas Reeves, a former history professor and Arthur biographer,
Arthur's father, William, was an Irish immigrant who came to Dunham, Quebec,
from Belfast around 1818. He worked as teacher before eloping with an
18-year-old Vermonter, Malvina Stone, who lived 25 kilometres south of Dunham,
just across the U.S. border. The couple had seven children and moved often when
William became a Baptist preacher.

Vermont officials hold fast to the claim Arthur was born in Vermont in 1829,
but have little to back it up. The state of Vermont didn't record births until
1857. Curiously, Arthur burned all his personal papers before he died in 1886."

For the record, here is a list of US Presidents who were born as British
subjects.
    * George Washington
    * John Adams
    * Thomas Jefferson
    * James Madison
    * James Monroe
    * John Quincy Adams
    * Andrew Jackson
    * William Henry Harrison

As far as I am concerned, I give two hoots where anyone has come from. My vote
goes to the person who shares my vision for the future. In that regard, Barrack
is turning out to be a aptly named and a real blessing. His economic policy
will shift the cost of health care from employers to the govt. Only when this
exercise is completed will companies that are based in the US be able to
compete on the world markets.

Until then, US consumers will sink deeper into the quagmire of being patriotic,
buying high priced, non-competitive goods, like GM car's i.e. manufactured by
the Govts of the USA and Canada.
