Selma Dear

I like you for your meaningful posts on goanet. But your response to JC on the
Portuguese passport issue loses your well-known rational balance.
Let me point out that there is nothing infallible in JC's logic. It's your
warped comprehension in THIS matter.
First let me concede that there are non-Portuguese-Goans in the UK -- may be
thousands of them. How and when they got htere is beside the point.
And it is true that the English don't care how you got to the UK.
It is also true that being a Goan does not matter to anyone other than Goans.
But to support your illogical argument you put togehter Goa and East Africa
which was also a foremr colony of the Portuguese.
The simple fact is that flying from the plains of say Tamil Nadu is certainly
not as easy as flying to the UK with the advantage of a Portuguese passport be
it from Goa or fron East Africa. Your choice of the word 'saunter' is good as
long as it is limited to the people with Portuguse pasports from the former
colonies of the Portuguese. Armed with a portuguese passport, I am sure an East
African or a Goan can saunter into the UK but I doubt if you can use the same
word when it comes to flying to the UK from say any part of Pakistan if not
Tamil Nadu.

RESPONSE:
Sometimes I find it hard to follow JC's infallible logic. How has the
Portuguese Nationality help Goan doctors in the UK? And how are they any
different than non-Portuguese-Goans in the UK? The English don't care how you
got to the UK, whether you flew in from the plains of East Africa or sauntered
in with a Portuguese passport, some 40 years after liberation. Please get over
the belief that being Goan matters to anyone other than Goans.
