Two new showrooms/office spaces, double height (135 sq m each with bath) for lease in upscale Campal/Miramar beach area, Panaji, Goa. Contact: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mario Goveia <[email protected]> It continues to amaze me that people still advocate government run health care systems for the US after all the horror stories coming out of old Blighty and Canada. Is this a misery loves company attitude or are the residents ignorant of what's going on under their very noses? Make up your own minds. jc' response: Mario Goveia makes some valid points. If President Obama listens to him, he will achieve his goal of providing health care for all. As far as I see it, the protagonists on the extreme left want total control of the delivery of health care. Their opinion is that once the State takes over health care delivery - it will run as beautifully as in the UK, Canada and Cuba. Here are some basic facts of life that the extreme-left forgets: a: Canada spends a great percentage of its tax-dollar on health care. Doubt that the Americans will like the 'Health Care Tax bill' when they see it. Canadians are lucky that they do not waste too much of the "tax-revenue" on wasteful wars. So, they can waste it on health care - while U WAIT. b: The NHS in the UK has just been advised by the McKinsey Consultants (brought in to review cost and wastage) that they will have to cut 137,000 'extra' jobs (10% of the NHS workforce) in order to reach their goal of the 37Billion savings target. Indicates the amount of waste in these govt run health systems. Just imagine the increase in WAIT TIMES! There has been severe criticism of sluggish functioning of the various Cost, Care and Quality Commisions which have been appointed. c: Cuba has a good system for Cubans. With specific reference to health care, Americans will not be able to lead the disciplined lives that the Cubans are expected to live. It needs to be said that - some methods of 'enforced health care' will go against the American principle of an individual's right to choose without being coerced/obstructed by the State or Church. On the extreme-right: a: The Insurance Companies are running patients ragged with HUGE increases in Health Care premiums. They blame it on the increased cost of health care. They do NOT explain HOW they manage to buy such huge properties and give their CEOs the bonuses they dish out every year. These insurance companies could be described as loan sharks. b: Drug Companies are unbelieveably unscrupulous. The recent $2 Billion fine on Pfizer is just the tip of the iceberg. c: Doctors - while many are good and believe that they will make a decent living while providing good quality care for their patients, some are ruthless in their quest to buy the next real estate property in the sun. d: Malpractice lawyers are hawks ....surveying the scene for their next 'kill'. This in turn gets the Insurance Companies into the act. They raise the malpractice premiums. Every time the premiums go up, because a doctor got sued, the Insurance companies grab another 'pot of gold'. This game is fine for those who have money. It is those who cannot afford primary and preventive care who suffer. The LEFT will tell you there are a "40+ million" uninsured The RIGHT will tell you - Nobody is denied emergency care. They conveniently forget to tell you that Preventive Care is key to good health. So here comes Obama's challenge and solution. [1] Those who do not want public health care - Go private like before. IF you lose your job and get kicked out by your Health Insurance Company .... we have a Public Plan for you. [2] But ...He would be quite 'unsmart' to go to the bargaining table with that plan. The LEFT will tear him down, the RIGHT will block 66.6% of the plan. [3] Best to go with the plan aka "Obamacare". The LEFT will be happy, The RIGHT will force a drawback of 66.6%. [4] What he will be left with is Healthcare for the Uninsured aka Public Option. Think about it jc
