Two new showrooms/office spaces, double height (135 sq m each with bath) for lease in upscale Campal/Miramar beach area, Panaji, Goa. Contact: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is quite a surprise that more people don't get electrocuted in Goa, due to the negligence of the Electricity Department. Over the years, quite a few of the Department staff have died, due to substandard equipment and inadequate training. The pool linemen used to go to attend to faults using chappals and rickety ladders - no safety gloves and proper tools. I have seen them carry their ladders on bicycles!! This used to happen in the city of Panjim! One can only imagine the situation in the villages and remote areas. There has to be some accountability and perhaps our susegad nature comes in the way of mass movement, to get results. The loss of 2 innocent lives due to the negligence of the complete hierarchy of Goverment, will only lead to suspension of some poor lineman or a Junior Engineer, while those in power will be visiting the bereaved family with cheques for paltry sums and some photo opportunities! I wonder as to when the Goa government will apply its resources to make sure that the people of Goa are provided uninterrupted supply of water and electricity. Whether it will ever happen is the question. The PWD keeps on growing and growing - it is perhaps the cash cow for the politicians. What they do is contracting and more contracting, systematically pocketing the commissions and in the process making a lot of millionaire Engineers and creating a substandard infrastructure, that never gets fixed!
