For me the answer is YES. And I definately find too many liquor shops in Goa too......some of them definately needs to be closed down. Unless we love to have more liquor shops than a clinic or school. Goans, do you agree? OR you love to get a 'kick' on every step you take on the road! Data/statistics do reveal that Kerala is no.1 in terms of alcohol consumption. Let them be. Atleast in this field lets not compete. Lets be last. In a statement September 5, the Kerala Catholic Bishops? Council, the premier representative body of a sizeable Catholic Christian community in Kerala, stated that studies conducted by state government agencies had found that drunken driving was the main reason for the increased rate of accidents in the state. Instead of organising effective anti-liquor campaigns, the Left Democratic Front government, with the single motive of increasing tax revenue through sale of liquor, was causing great harm to society by sanctioning to more such shops, the bishops said. ?This must stop immediately,? demanded the statement issued by KCBC president Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil and other office-bearers. Taxes from liquor sales have swelled the state coffers by rupees 193 crore this fiscal alone (from Rs. 1,163 crore in the last financial year to Rs 1,356 crore).
