Contact: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Robin Vaz Tiatrist (and Folklorist) Robin Vaz was born on 20th Oct. 1929 and died on 16th Nov. 2002 Besides tiatr, he was very popular with the Goan folk Songs. ‘GADDI GHEUN-U ZATREK-U OITAM..’ or ‘Sitaram Gaddiwala’ was one of the popular fongs (from film Amchem Noxib) played on Akasvanni Ponnje. I remember him as ‘Bhokddea Khadacho’. Also, remember him acting as a ‘Jew’ or Judev (Soldad) in one of the tiatr that were staged during ‘Korezm’ or lent. Once, at Margao, near Rajendra Prasad Stadium, where all tiatr used to stage at night 10.30pm, the tiatr gatekeepers were refusing to let a young child of say 10 years old who was with his mother saying he too needs a ticket. Seeing the woman plight, Robin Vaz requested to the Gatekeepers saying ‘ Soddat mure teka, bhurgo mure to’ and the boy was let in with his mother.
