Eddie, AIR FM Rainbow plays a significant amount of Konkani music (mostly cantaram). I'm not sure about the timings, but I think it's between 1.30 pm and 2 pm, an evening slot possibly 9 and 9.30 pm (I could be wrong) and for sometime in the mornings.
As you know, announcers in Konkani include late Allen Costa's daughter Tina Costa, among others. Somone should convince AIR FM to play more locally-produced music in the afternoons, when relays from Delhi dominate the airwaves (I guess this is an easy-way-out to face economic pressures, as generating local content, and filling slots locally is costlier). AIR FM is on 105.4 FM. There's also BigFM (which I almost always never hear) and Radio Indigo on 91.9. Indigo unfortunately has an English-only music approach (the morning programmes are good), which denies listeners of the charm of Konkani music. AIR FM is stuck in the 1960s and 1970s (and sometimes 1980s) for its choice of music. Given my own age, I won't complain, since that's the music we grew up with. This varies a little between its English and Konkani/Hindi programmes, because music availability between these languages varies, I guess. >From what I know, they don't use vinyl on FM. But then, with copyright and other encumbrances, there are all kinds of restrictions on converting music to hard-disk (or admitting that this is done). The audio quality, to my untrained ear, is very good ... but I'm not a sound engineer! You should talk to someone like Orlando Fernandes of AngelAV.com, who has also been involved with FM in the 1990s. Also copying this to my friend Sajan Venniyoor, a former PX (programme executive) at AIR-Panaji, who could perhaps tell you more. FN PS: You mean lightening or thunder? We had a bit of both this afternoon! 2009/9/22 Edward Verdes <[email protected]>: > FN > Thanks for the info... > Myself and few of my friends are looking for more info on AIR FM.....is it > the same Akashwani? > Also what are the Konkani songs programme they have on this chanel on daily > basis and time, > Are they playing the old songs from the Vinyl records..and what about the > clarity in music? > Just for yr info a few of my friends tried to record n digitalise a few > oldies...I got a song from one of the members > of one tiatrist who is no more but its not very clear..theres some > disturbance like lightning etc. -- FN +91-9822122436 P +91-832-2409490 Updated: http://goabooks.wordpress.com
