Goa A Ram Rajya
Reference to the article "CM calls upon people to make Goa a 'Ram Rajya'" on
Herald dated 29Th Sep'09, Goa a Ram Rajya or a paradise, what a noble thought,
every pore on my skin and every part of my being, yearns for it., It though
sounds wishful thinking, I am sure it's a dream that every Goan (Aam Aadmi)
carries with him/her day in and day out. But least we forget, "if wishes were
horses beggars would ride"
Gone are the days of peace and tranquility, communities singing, praying,
playing, mourning and celebrating together in oneness, sharing both joys and
sorrows and even hunger and abundance. No deceit, no grudge, no jealousy and no
ill-feelings but just pure concern and respect for a fellow human being. The
doctrine of moral values was a religion on it's own followed by most, simplicity
and humility was the order of the day, respect was the essence and brotherhood
was the bondage of unity.
Today as the race heats up, to be on the top of the power list, virtues and
morals are used as door mats, greed, hypocrisy, deceit and manipulation has
spread it's wings and given rise to cynicism, hatred and bigotry, suspicion has
become the essence of our lives and arrogance has become a tool for survival.
Isn't our progression heading in the reverse direction ? Instead of being more
humane, the animal instincts and teeth baring is becoming more and more
prominent. Ram Rajya or paradise, looks to be out of our reach.
During this festive season lets pledge, not to just burn the effigies of the
evil Ravana but burn the evil Ravana within each one of us, so that we become
more humane, more compassionate and better human beings, and along with all the
evil Ravans, I pray that we also incinerate the 40 ugly avtars of Ravana who
have besieged Mother Goa and are threatening to gouge her and sell her to the
highest bidder, perched in their "Lankan enclave" on top of the Porvorim
hillock. Called the Goan Vidhan Sabha. Only then I think Goa could be a Ram
Rajya or a Paradise.
