Dear Bernardo, Bosco, Actually an extensive research on this personality called 'Timoja' (so far I have not been able to find information his ethnicity) was compiled by B.S. Shastry (Bhagamandala Seetharama Shastry) (b.1938-d.1991), was born in Udupi (Canara) and was a lecturer in the Chowgule College in Madgao). He was interested in the Portuguese ventures in Canara and sought the assistance of Dr. P.S.S. Pissurlenkar (d.1969) who had an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, microfilms, photocopies (nearly 4000 items) and based on these, Shastry wrote a Thesis for his doctorate in 1969. This was later edited by Dr. Charles J. Borges, Director of XCHR (copyright: Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR) and published in the year 2000 by concept Publishing Co. in New Delhi.
The book is titled 'Goa-Kanara Portuguese Relations 1408-1763'. A chapter titled "Gersoppa's Hand in the Portuguese Capture of Goa" deals extensively on Timoja or Timmayya as Shastry has mentioned as he believed him to be a person of Karnataka origin. Those interested may purchase the book if available or since I have the entire chapter copied word to word, will be glad to post in parts in this forum. Surprisingly, Shastri has not mentioned of the death of Albuquerque's favourite and very young nephew, Dom Antonio de Noronha, who was killed during the second attempt to take over Goa and Albuquerque, was very much saddened and distressed on the death of his favourite nephew. Also some authors mention that Portuguese and not Timoja was appointed as “Aquazil Mor (chief Judicial and Administrative Officer) of mainland Goa. Importantly, some authors say that Timoja died in Vijayanagara due to 'poisoning' and Shastry has not mentioned the 'cause' of his death. Trust the above information is useful. Maurice D.
